Social security benefits can often be paid earlier than expected when they coincide with public holidays like Christmas and other bank holidays.

Typically, if your expected payment date falls on a bank holiday you can usually expect that payment to be paid into your bank account on the last working day before the bank holiday.

The Department for Work and Pensions and HMRC have recently confirmed the payment dates for Universal Credit, Tax Credits, PIP and Child Benefit.

As explained above, other benefits should be received by the last working day before the Christmas or New Year bank holidays.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit is normally paid on the same day each month, other than when this falls on a weekend and should be received on the Friday before.

However, over Christmas and New Year 2020-21 the exact date you will be paid may not necessarily be the day you are expecting it to appear in your bank account.
